Apple acquires Israeli company PrimeSense, Motion detection technology

Apple has purchased PrimeSense, an Israeli company that specializes in motion-detection technology, for $350 million, an Apple spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman, Kristin Huguet, confirmed the deal late Sunday, Haaretz reported Monday.

PrimeSense, founded in 2005, uses depth-sensing that identifies such things as hand movements, The Times of Israel reported.

The Israeli company is best known for licensing chips used in Microsoft Kinect motion-sensing systems for the Xbox 360.
