Animal Planet’s faux documentaries “Mermaids: The Bodies Found” (2012) and “Mermaids: The New Evidence” (2013) caused something of a stir. Indeed, the shows were ratings hits (both shows had a combined audience of 7 million viewers when they aired… the number is double that now). People who watched these documentaries failed to heed the program was fabricated. As a result, many demanded the U.S government come clean about Daryl Hannah’s cousins in the deep.
