Man steals truck in order to make it to court for vehicle theft case

19 December 2013 (KRCR) - At least he wasn't late!

A California man stole a truck so the he would be on time for a court case, where he was accused of stealing another vehicle, police said.

Michael Heller, 21, allegedly took a 1989 Ford Ranger in Redding early last Thursday.

John Westberg, 69, was working on his pickup when the suspect swooped.

KRCR-TV reports the accused crook simply jumped into the front seat and sped away.

Cops caught up with Heller and arrested him for vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.

He reportedly told officers he stole the vehicle so he'd be punctual for an unrelated court case which was for exactly the same crime.

It's now unclear how he'll make it to his next court appearance.
